Throttle and mixture cable installation | 1.22.2021

Since the engine control panel is now mounted, it's finally time to install the throttle and mixture cables back to the engine!

Started out by applying the carbon fiber 3M wrap film that we *were* planning on using on the entire panel. I've decided that it's a bit too shiny/busy for the entire panel, but think it will look good as an accent on the engine control portion of the panel. Likely the rest of the panel will be flat or satin black or gray, but the samples have yet to arrive.

Once that was done, I drilled through the pilot holes for the throttle and mixture (leaving the invisible pilot hole for the prop control) and pulled them through the panel, down into the conduit, and out the back of the plane.

Once everything was out the back of the plane, I started working on mounting the brackets and drilling for the cable clamps. The cables were first pushed all the way forward (full throttle and mixture), *almost* touching the stops in the cabin, but not quite, then the ends were attached to the fuel servo arms, and the cables were clamped where they sat. This will ensure the full range of motion for the fuel servo arms.

Each of the Velocity-provided brackets needed the holes drilled for the cable clamps, which were somewhat difficult to make work in the hard to reach area that these are both mounted. The bottom bracket (mixture), I drilled in place. The top bracket would not have been possible to drill in place, so it was marked in place, removed, drilled, then re-installed.

This is the bottom bracket prior to drilling.

I also trimmed both brackets after I had drilled for the mounting holes, as there was a decent amount of material that wasn't contributing anything to the party. Every oz counts. :)

Here's the mixture cable final install.

And the throttle cable at center. Hard to get a picture of, tight space.

And here's the connection at the throttle arm.

That's it for today, thanks for stopping by!
