G3X connector kits, brake lines/wheels | 11.3.2020
Received our G3X connector kits from SteinAir. Basically, the entire avionics system gets wired together with a big harness. The connector kits are what are needed to build the harness prior to installing the actual avionics. This lets the big ($$$) avionics purchase come at the very end, with this being a much more moderately (but still wallet hurting) purchase to get things built. We also bought our autopilot servos, and the more basic instrumentation (magnetometer, ADAHRS, etc). Didn't take any pics of this pile of goodies.
Also disassembled and tightened up all the hardware on the axles and brakes on both sides. The bearings need packing with grease, but they call for a specific aviation grease, so that will wait until it's delivered.
Wheel, bearings, and caliper off axle. Spot Calvin's foot off to the left. He was up way past his bedtime "helping". :) |
Re-assembled both sides, tightening up all the hardware. Bearing grease is ordered, so waiting on that to pack the bearings, but re-assembled with the light grease in there for now.
At this point I moved on to attaching the brake lines. Lines were cut to length and then attached with the ferrule and line insert.

I also fished the brake lines down the pilot's side plenum to the rear and connected them to the gear lines with unions. This will allow the gear lines to be replaced if needed later. Routed these as seen below, which seemed like the best to allow for gear movement and minimize stress on the lines.
