Strake pockets, aileron control cleanup, swing gear by hand, fuel vent reroute | 9.25.2020

Emily and I got a ton done. First, I cut the strake pocket covers out of some 4x BID glass that I had laid up previously. These will be installed on the front of the strake, which is accessible with the door opened, but covered when the door is closed. This just provides a neat little pocket in an area that otherwise would be useless.

Maybe we can fit a quart of oil in there or something.

Next up, we cleaned up the smoothness on the aileron control cables with the proper size washers. Aileron control now doesn't have a little bind like it used to.

After that, we unlocked and swung the gear by hand. And by that, I mean that Emily lifted the gear while I was inside the plane watching. This is when we discovered that the routing that I had planned for the two vent lines interfered with the gear, so we re-routed the vent line to the middle. This required re-fabricating most of the fuel vent. Oh well, live and learn.

Lastly (and the whole point of swinging the gear), I glassed the right main gear socket with 2 plies BID, as this looked like it hadn't been done. It may have, but I just couldn't see the fiberglass texture through the resin on top, and better safe than sorry.
